Thompson Family photos

Family portraits are usually the same: mom, dad, kids at some portrait studio or a park somewhere doing the same poses every family does.  While fine, I don’t like them.  I like photos of people in places they feel comfortable and speak to who they are.  Which is why the Thompson family (the whole family: grandparents, aunts, uncles, everyone but the cousins and the pets) and myself wound up at Wheeler Farm.

Now, the old-adage is don’t work with kids or animals.  I disagree.  Kids are almost always good sports about posing.  Amanda’s kids were no exception, especially when we got to the old John Deer and the saddle.  Kids do get bored and tired, which is why I try to keep family portrait sessions around an hour so they don’t get bored and antsy.

This shoot definitely fell under the Larger Group category.  All in all there were twelve people running around.  It might seem like a lot, but it wasn’t so bad: only four kids and plenty of adults who were willing to help me move my stuff.  I’ve always depended on the kindness of strangers.

This was a fun shoot to do.  The whole family was nice and easy to work with, and they came to the table with a location that reflected who they are.  I love doing shoots like this one, and I’m glad they enjoyed the photos.
