Granger Basketball Senior Night

Tuesday was the last game of the season at Granger for the boys, and as is tradition the school honored the outgoing seniors.  But before the seniors had their final moments under the fluorescent lights the JV squad had to do battle with the Hillcrest Huskies.

The Lancers held them off in the first half, but the unyielding press from Hillcrest wore them down.  They kept it close, but they eventually fell.

In the intermission between games the school held its Senior Night honors, where they thanked the seniors for what they did on the court and wished them well on their future endeavors.

I got to watch these kids play their way up from the Sophomore squad up to Varsity, and see them develop as players.  It was nice to see them with their parents, who’ve supported them since day one.  The notable exception to this is MJ, whose parents are out of the country; however, he got to walk out with a pair of cheerleaders which isn’t a bad consolation.  Coach Graziano said a few words about each player, and was just as proud as the parents to see what these young men have become.

With the honors out of the way it was time for the Varsity game to tip off.

The boys knew it would be their last game from the tip, and they were determined not to go out on a loss.  They came out swinging and quickly amassed a double digit lead that they would never let go of.  The seniors saw plenty of minutes in the first half, and each of them left their mark on the game.  It was a fitting end to three years of hard fought games.
