Southern Utah Trip 2014

Court of The Patriarchs

Court of The Patriarchs

In June I took a trip to St. George with my girlfriend to do some exploring and sight seeing, along with seeing where she grew up.  The big events, at least photographically, were going to Zion National Park and Snow Canyon State Park to drink in the beauty and grandeur that nature has been carving for thousands of years.  But first there was a warm up on Dixie Sugarloaf.

If you’re passing through town, it’s the big rock that had DIXIE painted on it.  The students of Dixie High School actually repel down and paint the massive letters on the giant rock every year.  Getting to the rock isn’t a difficult proposition, unless you did what we did and go the complete opposite direction.  It wasn’t all bad though, we did see some cool sights on our unplanned detour.

Like this for instance.  The next day we laid low, and the following day we made our way to Zion.

Words cannot describe the enormity of some of the features.  I felt as insignificant as an ant while staring at the Patriarchs, and that was the first stop the shuttle dropped us off at!  Also, there’s a shuttle that takes you throughout the park.  I highly recommend hopping on it.

Next stop was Weeping Rock, so named because of the colossal amount of water pouring from the rock itself.  In places the water left a mirror like surface, which perfectly reflected the amazingly blue sky above.  The hike up to, and down from Weeping Rock had some amazing views as well.

After that we hiked across the road and around a little river valley, where we found a school of tadpoles and some other hikers wanting to cool off in the river.  After that we hopped back on the bus and made our way to The River Walk, which due to its ease and proximity to a river is one of the more popular hikes in the park.

After hiking up, and taking a break in the river, we made our way back to the bus and back home.  The next day we were headed to Snow Canyon, which I was most excited to see.  Especially after I saw a photo Weston Colton shot there.

I was not disappointed.
